The Difference Between Polishing and BrushingThere are a number of differences between polishing and brushing, and our hygienists will provide both of these to those that come in for cleanings. Having them done is part of the cleanings that we provide here in our office and ensure that every patient gets them. Brushing your teeth is just like how you'd brush them at home. You want to ensure that you are getting the brushing needed by someone else. Since they can see in the mouth better, they are able to brush the different areas inside the mouth. The brushing is done with an electric brush that goes over the different areas inside the mouth, as well as the gum line. Polishing the teeth is different from brushing because it buffs and shines the teeth. It provides a cleaner, more protective coating over the outside of the teeth while removing any plaque or build up that the brushing may have missed. This is highly recommended to be completed by our hygienists after having the rest of the cleaning done.
